It's Menstrual Health Awareness Month for 2026
May is one of our favourite months of the year at Hey Zomi.
Because Menstrual Health Awareness Month is a reminder that periods are not “just part of being a woman” that people should silently put up with.
Menstrual health matters.
And for far too long, periods have been surrounded by shame, stigma, lack of education and lack of care.
Enough is enough.
At Hey Zomi, this is exactly why we do what we do.
We started Hey Zomi because we were tired of products that made periods harder, conversations that made periods awkward, and systems that expected people to just push through pain, discomfort and stress every single month.
Periods impact school, sport, work, relationships, confidence, mental health and everyday life. Yet menstrual health research, support and education still lag far behind where they should be globally.
Even now, we are continuing to learn more about conditions linked to menstrual health and hormones. Awareness around conditions like PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), endometriosis, adenomyosis and PCOS is growing, and more people are finally finding language and validation for experiences they have struggled with for years.
But times are changing! It was recently announced that PCOS has been misdiagnosed for years and the real condition has been rightfully names PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome). The Guardian's article announced it today.
You can also learn more about PMOS here. If you suspect you might be suffering with this condition, go and speak to your trusted health care professional to get the help and support you need.
This matters. Because people deserve to feel heard, supported and cared for.
And period equity matters too.
No one should have to miss school, work, sport or everyday life because they cannot access period products or proper care. No one should feel ashamed of a normal bodily function that affects billions of people around the world.
That is why Hey Zomi is about so much more than just period products.
We are here to help make periods easier, more comfortable and less stressful.
Whether that is through reusable menstrual discs, period underwear, education, advocacy or simply helping normalise conversations around periods, we want people to know there are better options and they deserve care that actually cares.
Because when people feel supported during their period, it changes more than just those few days each month.
It changes confidence. Freedom. Comfort. Participation and the quality of your life.
Honestly, society would be so much better if we cared about menstrual health the way we should have all along.
This month, we are celebrating progress, continuing conversations and pushing for better care, better education and better access for everyone with a period.
Live better. Period.
