From Packing Orders in Our Garage to Helping Change Periods Across Australia
Three years ago, Hey Zomi was just the two of us, sisters with a big idea, a tiny garage, and absolutely no clue what we were getting ourselves into.
We had one goal, to create period products that actually worked.
Products that made periods easier, more comfortable, less stressful and less limiting. Because we were tired of putting up with leaks, discomfort, endless “period admin” and products that just did not fit real life.
So we created Hey Zomi.
And honestly? We could never have imagined what would happen next.
It Started in Our Tiny Garage
Our very first orders were packed by us, right from our tiny garage.
Every single order.
We folded boxes, packed discs, printed shipping labels, wrote handwritten notes, and even ironed the little cotton bags that went with every Hey Zomi disc because we wanted every order to feel special. We would stay up late surrounded by stock, shipping satchels and packing tape, refreshing our phones every few minutes to see if another order had come through.
Every order felt exciting.
Every review felt surreal.
Every message from someone saying, “I cannot believe this actually worked for me” made us cry, happy tears, of course.
Back then, we were just hoping a few people might love our menstrual disc as much as we did.
The Little Disc That Changed Everything
When we designed the Hey Zomi disc, we were designing it for ourselves too.
We are real people with periods who had tried period products that leaked, felt uncomfortable, were hard to remove or just did not fit our bodies or our lives.
We wanted something better.
So we designed a reusable menstrual disc that:
- Can be worn for up to 12 hours
- Holds the equivalent of around 4 tampons
- Is suction-free
- Is designed to be easier to remove
- Helps people spend less time worrying about their period, and more time living their life
And then something incredible happened.
It worked for other people too.
Thousands of people started sharing their stories with us. People who had struggled with heavy periods, leaks, discomfort, sport, travel, parenting, endometriosis, just everyday life. They told us our disc had changed the way they felt about having a period.
Today, we have thousands of 5-star reviews from people all over the world who have discovered a new way of doing periods.
And we still read every single one ❤️
Within 6 Months, We Outgrew the Garage
Within just six months, our tiny garage could no longer keep up.
There were too many boxes, too many late nights, and way too many trips to the post office.
So we made a huge leap and moved our shipping to a warehouse in Sydney.
At the time, it felt enormous and honestly, a little terrifying.
But it was one of those moments where we realised this little business was becoming something much bigger than we had ever imagined.

Some of Our Biggest Milestones So Far ✨
Looking back over the last three years, there are so many moments that still feel unbelievable.
Launching New Products
What started with one menstrual disc has grown into a full reusable period care range.
We have launched:
✅ Our cleaning tablets, making it easier to care for your disc without needing to boil it AND they remove stains from period cups or discs!
✅ Our collapsible cleaning and carry cup - You can store, carry and even sanitise your disc using it in the microwave for convenience.
✅ Water-based lubricant to help make trying a disc easier and more comfortable
✅ Our brand new period underwear- The Bikini Brief and the Midi Brief - because we know there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to periods
Seeing our community trust us enough to try the next thing we create has been incredibly special. 💖

Launching in Woolworths Across Australia
Last year, one of our biggest dreams came true.
Hey Zomi launched in Woolworths stores across Australia. 💃🏽🎉
To see our product sitting on shelves around the country was a huge milestone, not just for us, but for our mission.
Because from the very beginning, we have believed that everyone should have access to life-changing, reusable period care.
Having Hey Zomi available in Woolworths means more people can discover a better option, no matter where they live.

Supporting Share the Dignity
One of the things we are proudest of is being able to support the incredible work of Share the Dignity in fighting period poverty.
Last year alone, we donated over $160,000 worth of menstrual discs.
Because when someone cannot afford period care, it affects so much more than just their period. It affects school, work, confidence, sport, social life and basic dignity.
A reusable menstrual disc can last for up to 5 years. One disc, every period, for years.
For so many people, that can be completely life-changing.
Knowing that Hey Zomi has been able to help people who otherwise may not have had access to period care means more to us than we can ever explain.
Thousands of 5-Star Reviews
There is still nothing better than opening a review or a message from someone who says:
“I wish I had found this sooner.”
Thousands of you have shared your stories with us.
You have told us that Hey Zomi has helped you:
- Stop worrying about leaks
- Sleep through the night
- Feel more confident at work, school, sport or the beach
- Save money
- Create less waste
- Finally feel like your period is not running your life
And honestly, those stories are what keep us going.
72 Million Period Products Saved from Landfill 🎉
In just three years, Hey Zomi users have helped stop more than 72 million disposable pads and tampons from ending up in Australian landfill.
That number absolutely blows our minds.
Together, we are proving that there is another way to do periods.
A way that is better for our bodies, better for our lives, and better for the planet.
The Reality Behind Building a Business as Sisters
People often ask us what it is like to build a business together as sisters.
The truth is, it is amazing, messy, emotional, exciting and chaotic all at once 😂
We have celebrated huge wins together.
We have cried together.
We have had stressful days, impossible days, and moments where we wondered if we could really do this.
But we have also had moments where we look at each other and think...
How is this real?
Because three years ago, we were packing orders in a garage.
And now we have a business that is helping people all over Australia feel more confident, comfortable and free.

Thank You 💗
None of this would have happened without you.
Thank you for every order.
Thank you for every review.

And we are only just getting started.
Here is to the next chapter 🥂
Live better. Period.

Frequently Asked Questions About Menstrual Discs, Period Cups and Period Underwear
What is a menstrual disc?
A menstrual disc is a reusable period product made from soft medical-grade silicone. Unlike a tampon or period cup, it sits in the vaginal fornix (right under the cervix), which means it can hold more blood and often feels more comfortable and less noticeable.
What is the difference between a menstrual disc and a period cup?
A period cup sits lower in the vaginal canal and uses suction to stay in place.
A menstrual disc sits in the vaginal fornix (right under the cervix) and does not rely on suction. Many people find discs more comfortable, easier to wear for longer and better for exercise, sleeping and heavy periods.
- See our video tutorial here-
Are menstrual discs better for heavy periods?
For many people, yes. Menstrual discs can hold more blood than tampons or many period cups, often up to the equivalent of around 4 tampons. This can make them a great option for heavy periods or anyone who is tired of constantly changing period products.
How long can you wear a menstrual disc?
Most menstrual discs can be worn for up to 12 hours, depending on your flow.
Can you wear a menstrual disc if you have not had sex?
Yes. Menstrual discs are safe to use whether or not you have had sex. Everyone's body is different, so it may take a little practice to find what feels comfortable.
Are menstrual discs easier to use than period cups?
Many people find menstrual discs easier because they do not need to create suction and they often pop into place more naturally. If you have struggled with a cup, a disc can be a great alternative.
Can you wear period underwear with a menstrual disc?
Absolutely. Many people love wearing period underwear as backup while they are learning to use a menstrual disc, on heavier days, or just for extra peace of mind.
Is reusable period care better for the environment?
Yes. One menstrual disc can last up to 5 years and replace hundreds of disposable pads and tampons. Reusable period care can also save a huge amount of money over time.
What is the best menstrual disc in Australia?
The best menstrual disc is one that feels comfortable, is easy to remove and suits your body and lifestyle. Many Australians choose Hey Zomi because it is reusable, suction-free, easy to remove and designed by real people with periods who wanted something better.
Are menstrual discs worth it?
For many people, absolutely. While a menstrual disc costs more upfront than a box of tampons, one disc can last for years, saving money and making periods feel easier, more comfortable and less stressful.
